Paul Jungels, Finance Director
Paul has been with the Erickson Merkel Foundation since its launch, serving as a board member and the organization’s volunteer finance director.
Paul began his career as a technical analyst in the IT department at Securian Financial Group, a St. Paul, Minnesota-based provider of insurance, retirement plans, and investments. After five years, Paul transferred to his current position on the IT Training team where he trains, advises, and manages new application developers as they begin their careers at Securian. Paul also works as a negotiator on the IT finance and vendor management team, developing and reviewing technology contracts and negotiating with selected vendors.
Paul served seven years in the Minnesota Army National Guard, trained as an intelligence analyst. While deployed to Basra, Iraq, Paul worked as the Battle Non-Commissioned Officer in the Base Defense Operations Center and was charged with the safety of over 5,000 Multinational Division service members. Additionally, Paul served as the battalion intelligence officer, analyzing and reporting on enemy activities and capabilities. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his critical work and accomplishments in Basra. Paul received his honorable discharge as a staff sergeant in 2013.
Paul graduated with honors from Saint Cloud State University with degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. In addition, he graduated from the United States Army Intelligence Center of Excellence in Fort Huachuca, Ariziona, where he studied analysis of strategic and tactical intelligence.
Paul lives with his wife Jessica and two children in Maplewood, Minnesota. He enjoys running, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
