Sean Merkel, board chairman
Sean has been with the board since its first meeting in October of 2014, although in spirit he’s been with the foundation even longer.
Sean works as the division manager for Summit Fire Protection, and his background extends further into community involvement. He currently serves with the National Fire Sprinkler Association, the National Fire Protection Association, and the The Breakfast Club of Minneapolis. Previously, Sean has served as the treasurer of the Uptown Hamel Business Group, and prior to that as the community service chair/chancellor of Delta Sigma PI, Professional Business Fraternity.
He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a BS in Business Management after receiving credentials and certifications at the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.
Sean feels truly blessed by the opportunities provided him by his father, Jerome P. Merkel, through the years.
“His guidance is blended with strong family values, hard work, strong spiritual faith, and community service,” Sean said. “I am honored to be considered for a board member position. I am proud of my father’s legacy, and very enthusiastic about the chance to help his legacy live on forever.”
Sean is both excited and hopeful that his prior experience in fundraising will help bring opportunities to the leaders of tomorrow.
